In the afternoon, we shift our focus to Old Cairo, the ancient nucleus of the city and the religious complex often called Coptic Cairo.

Our tour of this sacred area includes:

The Hanging Church (St. Virgin Mary’s Church)

One of the oldest and most famous Coptic Christian churches in Egypt, named for its location atop the towers of the Roman Babylon Fortress.

The Holy Family Church (St. Sergius and Bacchus Church)

Historically significant as the traditional site where the Holy Family (Jesus, Mary, and Joseph) rested after their flight into Egypt.

Ben Ezra Synagogue

A stunning 9th-century synagogue, famously the site where the massive cache of historical Jewish manuscripts known as the Cairo Geniza was discovered.

After a day traversing thousands of years of history, you will be transferred back to your hotel for a relaxing overnight stay in Cairo.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch

Day 3: Cairo – Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) & Islamic Cairo Bazaar

Enjoy a delightful breakfast at the hotel before embarking on a truly monumental day exploring the world’s most significant collection of Ancient Egyptian artifacts.

The Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM)

Today, you will visit the spectacular Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM), the largest archaeological museum in the world, located near the Pyramids of Giza. This is a must-see attraction on any Egypt tour.

Your guide will lead you through the stunning galleries, including:

Tutankhamun Treasures Gallery:

Prepare to be mesmerized as you see King Tutankhamun’s entire collection of over 5,000 artifacts displayed together for the first time since the tomb’s discovery in 1922. This includes the famous Golden Mask, thrones, jewelry, and gilded shrines—a collection often referred to as the Golden Pharaoh’s treasures.

The Royal Solar Boat:

You will view the impressive, fully restored Khufu Solar Boat, a ceremonial vessel built for Pharaoh Khufu (builder of the Great Pyramid) to carry him into the afterlife.

This visit offers an unparalleled insight into the New Kingdom and the beliefs surrounding Ancient Egyptian Pharaohs and immortality.

Traditional Egyptian Lunch

After your deep dive into the GEM’s magnificent history, you will enjoy an Egyptian lunch at a local restaurant.

El Moez Street and Khan El Khalili Bazaar

The afternoon takes you to the beating heart of Islamic Cairo to experience a vibrant contrast to the ancient pharaonic world.

Al-Muizz li-Din Allah al-Fatimi Street (El Moez Street):

Walk down this historic Cairo Street, often called an open-air museum. It holds the greatest concentration of medieval Islamic architectural treasures in the world, including stunning mosques, madrasas (schools), and Sabils (public fountains).

It is a key sight for Islamic tourism and Cairo sightseeing.

Khan El Khalili Market:

Your day concludes with a visit to the world-famous Khan El Khalili Bazaar. Immerse yourself in the sensory overload of this centuries-old Cairo market—the ideal place to shop for authentic Egyptian souvenirs.

It’s an essential experience to witness the vibrant daily life and haggle for the best deals in Old Cairo.

Saqqara – The Dawn of Architecture

Your exploration of the Saqqara area highlights the evolution of the pyramid structure:

Djoser Step Pyramid Complex:

Marvel at the Djoser Step Pyramid, built by the brilliant architect Imhotep. This massive structure, dating back to the 3rd Dynasty (c. 2670 BC), is recognized as the oldest complete stone building complex in the world and the pivotal transition from mastaba tombs to true pyramids.

Unas Pyramid:

These texts are the earliest known collection of religious funerary spells and the precursor to the famous Book of the Dead.

Princess Idut Tomb:

You will descend into one of the beautifully preserved Tombs of the Nobles, such as the Tomb of Princess Idut.

Inside, discover stunning reliefs and carvings depicting amazing daily life scenes—everything from fishing and hunting to farming—offering a vibrant glimpse into the Old Kingdom society.

Its unusual shape, with a sharp change in angle mid-construction, marks a crucial trial-and-error phase in the history of pyramid construction.

Red Pyramid:

Discover the Red Pyramid, also built by Sneferu. This monument is celebrated as the world’s first true geometrically perfect pyramid with smooth sides, officially succeeding the experiments at Dahshur and Meidum and paving the way for the masterpieces at Giza.
