Itinerary

Your Cairo stopover tour to Giza Pyramids started when you meet with your Egyptologist guide in front of the arrival hall holding a sign with your name. Get in your new brand A/C vehicle and start your way to the majestic Giza Plateau where you will be face to face to the famous Giza Pyramids: the Great Pyramid of Khufu, the Pyramid of Khafre, and the Pyramid of Menkaure.

It takes between 30-45 minutes to reach the Pyramids and while you listen to your guide, you can enjoy the local life on the way and the bustling streets of Cairo. Upon arrival to Giza Pyramids, you will start your tour as following

The Great Pyramid of Cheops

Start your tour to Giza Plateau with the Cheops Pyramid, the largest and most famous pyramid standing for about 146 m. Listen to your guide how ancient Egyptian built the Pyramids, and learn about the history of the 4th Dynasty, Old Kingdom. You can explore the interior of the Pyramid against charge.

The Queen Pyramids & Solar Boat Pits

Walk with your guide around the Cheops Pyramids to see the Queen Pyramids. The three smaller pyramids located on the east side of the Great Pyramid of Giza (Khufu) are known as the Queen’s Pyramids. They are believed to be the tombs of Khufu’s wives and his mother Queen Hetepheres I: Khufu’s mother, Queen Meritites: One of Khufu’s wives, and Queen Henutsen: Another one of Khufu’s wives.

The area surrounding the Great Pyramid of Giza is home to a number of pits carved into the bedrock, which are believed to have held funerary boats for Pharaoh Khufu. A total of seven such boat pits have been identified in the Giza complex. Of these, the most famous is the one that contained the “Khufu ship,” also known as a “solar barque discovered in 1954.

The Pyramid of Khafre

End your walk around the Great Pyramid with the second Pyramid of Khafre, the only Pyramid still keep the original casing stones at the top.

The Pyramid of Menkaure & the Panorama

The smallest of the three main pyramids at Giza, is unique because it is the only one to retain a portion of its original granite casing. While the other pyramids were cased in fine white limestone, the lower portion of Menkaure’s pyramid was finished with Aswan granite. Although much of this granite was later stripped away, some sections remain intact today. Later on, you will drive to the Panorama or ride a camel from the third Pyramid to the Panorama. In fact, From here, you can capture all three of the main pyramids—Khufu (the Great Pyramid), Khafre, and Menkaure—in a single photograph, creating a classic and iconic image of the Giza Necropolis.

Valley temple | Mummification temple

The Valley Temple, part of the pyramid complex of Pharaoh Khafre, is a remarkable and well-preserved structure that offers a glimpse into the ancient Egyptian funerary rites. It is located just to the east of Khafre’s pyramid and the Great Sphinx. While some historians believe it was the site of the mummification process itself, it is more definitively identified as the location where the king’s body was ritually purified and prepared for its journey to the afterlife. Also, it may have been the location for the “Opening of the Mouth” ceremony, a vital ritual to restore the deceased’s senses and ability to eat and drink in the afterlife.

The Great Sphinx

The Great Sphinx is one of the most recognizable and mysterious monuments in the world. Carved from a single piece of limestone bedrock on the Giza Plateau, this colossal statue has the body of a lion and the head of a pharaoh. It dates back to the reign of Pharaoh Khafre, the builder of the second pyramid at Giza. The face of the Sphinx is widely thought to be a portrait of Khafre himself.

The Dream Stele

Between the front paws of the Sphinx is a granite slab( Dream Stele). This stela tells the story of a young Prince Thutmose IV who, while resting in the Sphinx’s shadow, fell asleep and had a prophetic dream. In the dream, the Sphinx, speaking as the god Hor-em-akhet, promised Thutmose the throne of Egypt if he would clear the sand that had buried its body. Upon becoming pharaoh, Thutmose IV fulfilled his vow, clearing the sand and erecting the stele to commemorate the event and legitimize his rule

At the end of your tour, you will enjoy a freshly cooked lunch at a local restaurant before you go back to Cairo airport as part of your Cairo Layover Tour to Giza Pyramids & the Sphinx from Cairo Airport.
