Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Luxor & The Wonders of the East Bank
Your journey begins with a warm welcome. Our expert guide will meet you at Luxor airport, the train station, or your hotel to kick off your exploration of the famous Luxor East Bank attractions.
The first stop is the magnificent Karnak Temple, the largest religious complex ever built. You’ll walk through the biggest Hypostyle Hall in the world, a forest of 134 towering columns that still hold the secrets of the Pharaohs.
As you wander, marvel at the detailed carvings depicting the Battle of Qadesh led by Ramesses the Great, and see the inscriptions of the first peace treaty in history, signed with the Hittites of Syria.
The history continues as you look up at the massive obelisks of Queen Hatshepsut and her father, Thutmose I.
One of the most unique stops inside the complex is the first Botanical Garden in the world, created by Thutmose III, where you can see ancient carvings of fascinating birds and plants.
We’ll wrap up the morning at the sacred lake and the giant scarab statue, while you learn the fascinating stories of ancient Egyptian history during the New Kingdom.
Check-in and Relaxation on MS Ciela
After a morning of discovery, we will drive you to the docks to check in at the Ciela Nile Cruise. This is your home on the water for the next five days.
Once on board, you’ll enjoy your lunch in the dining room and have the afternoon to rest and settle into your cabin. Take a moment to enjoy the breeze on the deck as the sun begins its descent over the Nile.
Luxor Temple by Night
As the sun sets, we’ll head back out to visit the Luxor Temple by night. Seeing this temple illuminated against the dark sky is a completely different experience; the shadows and lights bring the giant statues of Ramesses II to life.
After walking through the beautifully lit colonnades, you’ll return to the ship for dinner and an overnight in Luxor, sleeping soundly as the river flows gently beside you.
Meals: lunch, dinner
Day 2: The Royal Necropolis & The Queen’s Temple
Exploring the Luxor West Bank
After a fresh breakfast on board, you will join your expert guide to cross to the other side of the Nile and explore the legendary Luxor West Bank. This side of the river was the land of the dead for the ancient Egyptians, where the sun sets, and the journey to the afterlife begins.
Your first stop is the Colossi of Memnon. These two massive stone statues are the second-largest colossi in Egypt, after those of Abu Simbel.
Standing tall against the backdrop of the Theban hills, they are the remains of a once-vast mortuary temple. Here, you’ll learn about the fascinating process of mummification and why these giants have captivated travelers for thousands of years.
The Valley of the Kings
Next, we head deep into the limestone cliffs to visit the Valley of the Kings. This hidden canyon holds more than 60 tombs carved directly into the mountain, designed to be eternal houses for the Pharaohs of the New Kingdom.
As you descend into the tombs, you will see some very large sarcophagi and admire the vibrant religious texts and artwork covering the walls. These intricate scenes explain the ancient Egyptian beliefs and religion, detailing the soul’s perilous journey through the underworld to reach paradise.
The Temple of Queen Hatshepsut
We wrap up your West Bank tour at the breathtaking Temple of Queen Hatshepsut, also known as El Deir El Bahari. This architectural marvel is built into the side of a towering cliff and is dedicated to Egypt’s most powerful female Pharaoh.
Your guide will lead you through the terraces to see some of the most interesting stories in ancient history, including the famous Punt expedition to modern-day Somalia and the myth of the Queen’s divine birth.
You’ll also visit the beautifully preserved Hathor chapel, the Anubis chapel, and the Holy of Holies of Amun.
After a morning filled with wonder, we will drive you back to the Ciela Nile Cruise to enjoy your lunch as the ship begins its journey south to Edfu city via Esna lock.
Meals: breakfast, lunch, dinner
Day 3: Edfu Temple – The Legend of Horus & The Double Temple of Kom Ombo
Early Morning Horse Carriage to Horus Temple
Your third day begins with an adventure before breakfast. You will set out on an early departure from the ship, taking a traditional horse carriage through the town of Edfu to visit the magnificent Horus temple.
This site is widely recognized as the best-preserved one in Egypt. Because it was buried under river silt and sand for centuries, the temple remains almost perfectly intact, allowing you to experience the grandeur of ancient architecture exactly as it was intended.
The Struggle Between Good and Bad
Inside, your guide will lead you through the halls to see the only temple wall that depicts the struggle between good and bad in such vivid detail. You will follow the epic mythological battle between Horus and Seth, a story that defined the ancient Egyptian understanding of justice and order.
The temple also offers a perfect idea about the rituals of constructing the temple, showing the meticulous steps the ancients took to sanctify the ground and raise these massive stone walls.
Ancient Feasts and Sacred Marriages
As you explore the inner chambers, you’ll learn about the vibrant ancient feasts that took place here. One of the most beautiful stories carved into the stone is the celebration of the marriage between Horus of Edfu and Hathor of Dendera, a festival that brought thousands of pilgrims to the riverbanks.
After immersing yourself in these legends, you will return by carriage to the Ciela Nile Cruise for a well-earned breakfast as we begin sailing toward our next destination.
Sailing to Kom Ombo & Life on the Nile
Return to Ciela Nile Cruise for breakfast while sailing to Kom Ombo city. From the sundeck, watch daily life along the Nile banks—a serene highlight of your Luxor to Aswan Nile cruise.
The Unique Double Temple & Crocodile Museum
After lunch, visit the only double temple in Egypt, dedicated to Sobek and Haroeris. Finish at the Crocodile Museum to see ancient mummified crocodiles and sacred artifacts.

Early Morning & The Journey to Abu Simbel

Upon arrival, you will marvel at the two temples with your expert guide. These colossal rock-cut monuments, built by Ramesses II, are a testament to ancient Egyptian power and architectural genius.
After exploring the intricate carvings and massive statues, you will head back to the cruise for lunch and prepare for the afternoon’s Aswan attractions.
The Aswan High Dam & Philae Temple
In the afternoon, we dive into the history of Aswan. You will first visit the Aswan High Dam, a modern engineering marvel that reshaped the Nile’s landscape.
Following this, enjoy a short ride with a motorboat across the shimmering waters to reach the beautiful Philae temple.
Dedicated to the goddess Isis, this temple is located on an island and offers some of the most romantic views in Egypt. After your tour, return to the Ciela cruise for your final evening meal and an overnight in Aswan.
