Luxor temple

Visiting Luxor Temple won’t be a sightseeing visit, but it will be a deep dive into ancient Egyptian religion and festivals in ancient Egypt. Luxor Temple was connected to Karnak Temple with the Avenue of Sphinxes to celebrate the Opet Festival when Amun of Karnak comes to recharge his energy for the creator Amun Ka.Mut.f.

Actually, the Luxor Temple was built mainly by Amenhotep III and Ramses II, but Tutankhamun, Horemheb, and Ay added to the temple. There is a lot to see here, especially the colossi of Ramesses, the Qadesh Battle on the first pylon, and the Barque shrine of Hatshepsut.

Also, the Divine Birth of Amenhotep III, the Alexander the Great Chapel, and the Open-air Museum.

Karnak Temple Complex

The temple of Karnak is a complex of temples and the additions of about 34 kings and queens. Karnak is the biggest temple in the world, as it covers 60 hectares and took 2500 years to be built.

In fact, the temple was dedicated to Amun Ra, plus his wife, the goddess Mut, and their son, the god Khonsu. Actually, the temple starts with the port, the Avenue of Sphinxes, and then the pylon with the main gate of the temple.

You can explore a lot of things here, especially the Great Hypostyle Hall with 134 massive sandstone columns, the Hatshepsut Obelisk, the Red Chapel, the White Chapel, the Karnak Kings List, and the Sacred Lake. Day 2: Luxor West Bank

Optional tour

early morning Hot Air Balloon ride by sunrise against a charge of 80 € per person

Enjoy your morning breakfast at the hotel before you head with your guide to explore Luxor attractions on the Luxor west bank. You will start with one of the best things to do in Luxor.

Valley of the Kings

King’s Valley is the second most visited area after the Pyramids, and it’s a must when you are in Luxor. The Valley of the Kings was the place where the pharaohs of the 18th, 19th, and 20th dynasties carved their tombs inside the mountain. While visiting the Valley, you can visit 3 of the following tombs included in your entrance ticket

(KV 02) Rameses IV

Tomb of Ramses III (KV 11)

Ramses IX Tomb KV 6

Merenptah tomb (KV 8)

The tomb of Tausert and Setnakht (KV 14)

There are also 3 extra tombs against charge, such as the Tutankhamun tomb with his mummy and sarcophagus, because the rest of the treasures are in the Grand Egyptian Museum. Also, the Seti I tomb, and Ramesses V are extra charge tombs.

After visiting your 3 tombs and shooting some photos for the astronomical ceiling of the tombs and religious book like Book of DeadOpening of the Mouth, you will be ready for your next stop.

Mortuary temple of Hatshepsut

The temple of Hatshepsut in El Deir El Bahari is a very unique temple in Luxor because the builder is a female Pharoah, and the temple is her story and mission in life.

Actually, the temple shows a lot of interesting stories, like Hatshepsut’s Divine Birth, her expedition to the Land of Punt to import the sycamore trees and the incense.

Moreover, the temple features many chapels, like the Hathor Chapel, the Anubis Chapel, and the Amun Chapel. Many people, when they visit the temple, feel they were Hatshepsut in their previous life because they connect to her Ka in the temple. So, the temple is a very important stop for the spiritual and meditation groups.

Memnon Colossi | Theban Necropolis

End your Luxor day tours on the west bank with the huge statues of Amenhotep III, which once decorated the entrance of his mortuary temple.

Each statue is about 18 m and represents Amenhotep III seated on the throne with his hands on his knees, and on both sides of his legs are his mother and wife. Listen to your guide about why the Greeks called them Memnon and what phenomena happened daily in the past.

Lunch

At the end of your Luxor day tour on the west bank, you will enjoy a typical home-made lunch at a local restaurant behind the Memnon Colossi. Later on, you will start your way back to your hotel in El Gouna.
